Addressing the Workforce Needs of Hawaii Agriculture

To help address the present and future workforce needs of Hawaii’s agricultural industry, the Hawaii Department of Labor and Industrial Relations (DLIR), the Hawaii Workforce Development Council and the Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) are collaborating on a statewide series of Skill Panel meetings.

The first meeting was held on December 2011 on Oahu, where farmers, industry professionals, HDOA staff, representatives from the education and public workforce systems, and other industry stakeholders gathered to discuss challenges facing the agriculture industry and to propose practical solutions on both a local and statewide level.  Subsequent meetings have been held in Hilo, Kona, Maui, and Kauai to fully encompass the unique challenges facing the agricultural communities in the various counties.
