HONOLULU —  The Hawaii Department of Agriculture’s Measurement Standard Branch (MSB) will be conducting annual taxi meter inspections on Oahu from now until June 30, 2009.

During this time period inspections will be conducted on a first-come-first-served basis, Mondays through Fridays (except state holidays) between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.; and 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. (times revised slightly from initial release) at MSB, which is located near Sand Island at 1851 Auiki St.  During the same days and time the annual registration fee can also be submitted to the state.

Taximeter inspection involves running the taxi through a pre-measured course to determine that the meter is working properly, helping to ensure that riders are accurately charged for their fare.

Taxi drivers are required to have all identification, registration, and business paperwork available, including a current and correct rate card, for inspection.  Taxi drivers with questions about the inspection process may contact the Measurement Standards Branch at (808) 832-0690.
