MONKEY SEIZED BY HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Department of Agriculture (HDOA) today confiscated a monkey from a man who was in possession of the restricted animal without the proper permit.  With assistance from the Honolulu Police Department Specialized Services Division, investigators from HDOA and the State Attorney General’s Office executed a search warrant this morning on a Makiki home where the 52-year-old man was living. The monkey was found inside the home.

The matter has been under investigation by HDOA for several months. No further details are being released pending further investigation and because the matter is still under investigation, a photo opportunity of the animal will not be available at this time.

Primates, including monkeys, are only allowed to be imported and kept in Hawaii under a permit with specific conditions set by the Hawaii Department of Agriculture and with the approval of the Hawaii Board of Agriculture.
