Agricultural Resource Management Division

Agriculture related facilities, such as vacuum cooling plants, slaughterhouses, experimental stations and marshalling yards, serve as centers for farmers. Currently there are nine facilities; four on the island of Hawaii.

Hawaii

Kamuela Vacuum Cooling Facility is operated by the Kamuela Farmers Cooperative which consists of 60 members. Approximately 7,000,000 lbs. of produce is processes annually. The facility also provides storage and limited processing services.

Honalo Processing and Marshalling facility is operated by the Kona Producers Cooperative which consists of 20 members. Approximately 815,000 lbs. of produce is processed annually. The facility also provides storage, marshalling/transshipping services and limited processing services.

Hamakua Slaughterhouse is operated by Hawaii  Beef Producers LLC.  The facility currently processes over 1.2 million pounds of beef annually.

Hamakua Livestock Marshalling/Feedlot provides consolidating, inoculating/branding, transshipping, and transportation services for cattle.

Kamuela Vacuum Cooling Plant – Final Master Plan and Feasibility Study

To support the agricultural community, the State of Hawaii Department of Agriculture looked at expanding the uses at the Kamuela Vacuum Cooling Plant to include additional amenities that would help farmers comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) and promote farming. Oahu

Hawaii Agricultural Research Center (“HARC”) diversified crops program. Selection and breeding the primary objective of coffee breeding and selection program is to develop high yielding, excellent bean quality cultivars which are adapted to specific growing conditions in Hawaii.

Kalaeloa Slaughterhouse is operated by the Hawaii Livestock Cooperative.  It provides livestock (cattle, hogs, and goats) slaughtering services and limited processing of livestock products.

Molokai

Molokai Cooling Plant is operated by a new lessee for its own use, but makes up to fifty per cent of the plant’s capacity available to all Molokai farmers.

Molokai Slaughterhouse Facility provides livestock slaughtering services.

Hikiola Agricultural Cooperative is a supply and material source for farming operations.
