HDOA staff on Hawaii Island confirmed the presence of American Foulbrood disease (AFB) in a bee colony in Hamakua.  The disease is not new to Hawaii, but it is a recent detection on Hawaii Island.  Beekeepers are encouraged to inspect their colonies and be on the lookout for AFB and other diseases and pests of honeybees.
