Agribusinessman GOTTLIEB appointed TO
HAWAII BOARD OF AGRICULTURE
HONOLULU – Alan H. Gottlieb, a long-time agricultural businessman, has been appointed to the Hawaii Board of Agriculture. His nomination by Governor Linda Lingle to the 10-member board gained confirmation from the State Senate on April 22. Gottlieb’s appointment became effective upon his confirmation and runs through June 30, 2005. The appointment fills the unexpired term of Sumner Erdman who resigned from the board in March.
Gottlieb, 45, is owner and chief operating officer of Hawaiian Earth Products, Ltd., a recycling compost facility. He is also secretary/treasurer and business manager for Ponoholo Ranch Limited and vice president of Kahua Ranch Limited. He is also the former owner of Kahua Nurseries, Inc. and previously was employed as general manager and controller for Kahua Beef Sales, Inc. and Kahua Meat Co., Ltd.
“Alan brings with him a wealth of knowledge in many sectors of agribusiness as well as tremendous leadership skills,” said Sandra Lee Kunimoto, Chairperson of the Hawaii Board of Agriculture. “His experience in the local cattle, nursery and environmental industries makes him an ideal appointee and we look forward to his contributions to the Board.”
In 1999, Gottlieb was named as Cattleman of the Year by the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council. Also in 1999, he was awarded the “Investing in the Environment Award” by Hawaii Investor Magazine. He has served as a board member of both the Hawaii Cattlemen’s Council and the Hawaii Beef Industry Council since 1990 and is also currently a committee member of the Recycling Committee of the General Contractor’s Association. He has also served as a board member for the Agricultural Leadership Foundation of Hawaii from 1992 to 2002.
Gottlieb received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Hawaii in 1980. He participated in the Pacific Century Fellows Leadership Program in 2001-2002.
