TAKE THE TILAPIA TASTE CHALLENGE!

HONOLULU – This is not your father’s tilapia – the kind that is found wild in Lake Wilson. We’re talking island fresh, farm-raised golden tilapia. If you haven’t tasted farm-raised tilapia, here’s your chance to take the “Tilapia Challenge” at the Hawaii State Farm Fair this Saturday,

July 26 from 12 noon to 5:00 p.m. The Learning Center tent will be the site of the challenge, where chefs will prepare both tilapia and island fresh mahimahi using identical methods and you decide in a side-by-side blind taste test which is your favorite.

This is the second annual Tilapia Challenge sponsored by the Aquaculture Development Program (ADP) of the Hawaii Department of Agriculture. The results from last year’s Tilapia Challenge showed that tasters preferred the tilapia two-to-one. This year’s Tilapia Challenge will prepare about 1,000 samples each of tilapia and mahimahi.

If you would like to see live golden tilapia and other sea creatures, visit ADP’s aquaculture display in the main tent.

For more information on the Tilapia Challenge, please call Dean Toda, at ADP at 587-0030.
